Fed up with the standard shape of card? Try some of these simple shapes for a change – they can all be made from half an A4 sheet of card. All you need to do is make a few cuts and folds, and you have a variety of different shapes. Some useful tools for folding include a score board which has various different score lines marked, and a bone folder for making sharp creases.

Cutting can be done either with scissors, or for more accurate cutting use a metal ruler and a sharp knife. The decorative papers used are a new range from K and Co, 6 x 6 pads, and 36 sheets each of Designer Paper. The range comes in 6 different colourways and the ones used here are Sparkly Sweet, Classic Mckenna and Classic Bailey.

Stamps Used:

All by Artifacts Stamps.

PURPLE KISSES

folded cards 2

  1. Measure and divide an A5 card into three equal sections – score and fold. Measure about 7cm down the edges from the top, and then use this point to cut each side into a triangle.
  2. Cut decorative papers to fit on the front of each triangle and glue on. Fold them backwards to keep them out of the way for the next step.

  3. Stamp and gold emboss the central portion with the butterfly stamps, and then sponge on Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid and Pearlescent Lavender inks. Finish around the edges with Victorian Violet ink.
  4. Stamp and gold emboss Kisses on to a Pearlescent Purple tag and set with an eyelet.

5. Punch a hole on the right hand triangle side of the card and set with an eyelet. Close the card with the right hand side on top. Thread ribbon and/or fibre through the hole, add the tag and wrap around the card, securing with a bow.

DAISY CHAINS

folded cards 5

  1. Cut an A4 sheet of white card in half lengthways. Fold each end into the middle – you may be able to use the gatefold score lines on your score board for this, or you can simply measure the card.
  2. Mark the central point of each flap, and cut into triangles.
  3. Stamp the triangles with The Daisy Chains, in Adirondack Currant ink.
  4. Cut a panel of the decorative paper to fit the back of the card and stick in place.
  5. Stamp a flower on a spare piece of card and copper emboss. Stick a square dome sticker over it, and cut around the sticker.

  6. Cut a 4cm square of gold mirror card. Add sticky foam to the back of the flower and then 2 or 3 strands of raffia. Stick on to the gold square, adding a dab of glue first.
  7. Stick the top of the square on to the top triangle flap. Add a piece of sticky Velcro to the bottom of the square and the card and press to close.

ENVELOPE CARD

folded cards 6

  1. Take an A5 piece of dark red card, and make a score line approximately 2cm in from the bottom edge. Fold and crease.
  2. Measure about 9cm in from the top edge, fold and crease.
  3. Measure halfway along the folded edge, mark and cut the front into a triangle. Cover the triangle and the bottom flap with decorative paper.
  4. Stamp and gold emboss the Butterfly text on to decorative paper and tear a panel to fit down the card as shown – stick into place.

  5. Punch a square ribbon charm from gold mirror card. Thread ribbons through and lay on the card, wrapping around it. Secure at the back with double stick tape.
  6. Add a piece of sticky Velcro as a closure.
