Key Pieces 1

Decorated jigsaw pieces are all very popular at the moment and here we have some scaled down pieces that have been embellished and added to a card.

These pieces come in a pack of twelve puzzles, with each puzzle consisting of sixteen pieces. As you can see, one pack will go a very long way!

Alcohol Inks have been used to add colour to the plain puzzle pieces before they are stamped and embossed. Great fun to do and they can be themed to suit all occasions.

We used:

Step by Step:

  1. Start by stamping the Secret Keys image onto the buff card using the Vintage Sepia ink pad. Then line it up above the first image and stamp it again, having re-inked the stamp. Now make a second row of two images, matching up the edges of the stamp each time. From this stamped card, tear a strip about 6cm wide. This only needs to be torn on the right hand side.
  2. Cut the A4 black card in half and fold one piece in half to form the main card. From the front layer of the folded card, tear a strip off that measures about 7.5cm.

  4. When tearing card, if you tear towards you, as in the picture, you will have a lovely edge showing. Tear away from you, and the tear will be crisper. All a matter of taste really.
  5. Key Pieces 4

  6. Use double-sided tape to attach the stamped beige card to the inside of the torn edge of the black card.
  7. Now for the four jigsaw pieces. Attach the felt pad to the Applicator Tool and add a few drops of each of the three Alcohol inks.
  8. Key Pieces 5

  9. Quickly pat the tool onto the jigsaw pieces to add the colour. You can add more drops to the tool and re-apply until you are happy with the colours.
  10. Key Pieces 6

  11. Ink up the Secret Keys stamp with the Black Soot ink pad and stamp part of the image on each of the four puzzle pieces.
  12. Key Pieces 7

  13. Once the ink is dry we’ll emboss the pieces one at a time. So, pat one coloured and stamped jigsaw piece onto the surface of the embossing ink pad, then sprinkle it with clear embossing powder. Heat with a heat tool and while it is still hot, add a second layer of powder and re-heat. Add one more layer in the same way to give a beautiful glass-like finish. Repeat with the other three puzzle pieces.
  14. Use foam pads to attach three of the pieces to the front of the main card.
  15. Punch out twelve flowers from the three different background papers. Layer together three different flowers and make a small hole through the centres, using a needle tool or punch. Insert a gold brad through the hole and attach two flowers to the main card, having pierced a hole first.

  17. Finally, add some fibres around the spine of the card and you’re done!

For the ATC…

Key Pieces 9

  1. Cut a piece of terracotta card to the correct size for an ATC - 2.5 x 3.5 inches or 64 x 89 mm.
  2. Stamp the Secret Keys image on the left hand side in Walnut Stain ink and the Medieval Key to the lower right, again in Walnut Stain ink. Punch a hole in the top left hand corner of the ATC and add the final decorated jigsaw piece to the lower section of the ATC.
  3. Make up two more flowers from the punched pieces and attach them to the ATC using a gold brad in each one. All that remains is to add a few fibres through the top hole and you are ready to swap!

avatar Thank you Jane. I picked up a (large) jigsaw in a charity shop, so will have
plenty to practice on!
