Periodically we thought we would try and show you some differently folded cards. The idea is to show you the fold, with just a quick sample card, so that you can play with it for yourself. Our first unusual card is a diamond-fold card. I have to say that when I first saw it, my head went into a bit of a spin. However, it is much easier to make than it is to try and work out how it is made!
So, to make the folded card: - This card starts out as a 12 x 12 sheet of card. Cut a strip from this that is 10cm wide.
- Lightly mark a line in the centre of this strip, so at 15cm.
 - Take one edge of the strip and fold it to the centre line.
 - Now do the same with the other edge of the strip. Turn the card round so that the point is away from you and open out the card. Repeat these two folds from this side. When you have done this, open out the card again and you should have a diamond shape in the middle.
 - Turn the card over and fold the right hand edge of the card in to the left hand edge of the diamond, as in the photograph. Repeat this with the other side of the card.
 - Open out and turn the card over again. Fold in each edge to the nearest point of the diamond, as in the photograph.
 - Gently make your diamond shape by easing in the folds. Your card is now ready to decorate.
For this card I ran some cream card through a Cuttlebug machine using the Birds & Swirls Embossing Folder. I also used the Bells from the set of Wedding Embossing Folders. - Two panels were cut from the Birds & Swirls panel, one to fit on both of the end pieces of the diamond-fold card. A further piece was stuck on the central diamond.
- Another piece of cream card was put through the Cuttlebug, this time using the bells from the set of Wedding Embossing Folders. It was trimmed to sized, layered onto a piece of backing paper, then attached to the central diamond using sticky foam pads.
- This would make an unusual wedding card or, with a bit of extra thought, wedding invitations for a few of the extra special guests.
So having mastered the basic folds, the world is now your oyster! The key, as with all things folded, is accuracy, so take your time! The finished card!
A free gift could be yours! **If you have a particular folded card that you would like to share with other Guild Members, just send it in to us. All we would need is the card itself, the step by step stages of the fold, so that we can photograph the steps, plus detailed instructions and things used to make your card. There’s a gift for any that we then feature in Guilded!**
