Are you always chasing beads, brads and eyelets around your desk? Can you remember buying that blue ribbon but just can’t put your hand on it when you need it?

That is me all over! So when I found this small wooden chest of drawers lurking at the back of a cupboard I knew just where I could keep all those little bits and pieces. However it was a bit boring, being just painted in one colour, so I decided to decorate it up a bit using the ‘Wish You Were Here’ plate of stamps with this month’s Guilded magazine. It seemed the perfect one to use as I really did wish all those bits were here, in one of the drawers! Plus it is not necessarily the first way you might think of using them.

I have no idea where the drawers came from originally but I am sure there are plenty of similar things available or even hiding in one of your cupboards!

We used:

Step by Step:

Start by giving the chest of drawers a quick sand and wipe with a cloth, then dab it all over with the Lemonade Paint Dabber. Paint inside and out and all surfaces of the drawers too. I wanted a smoother finish to this coat of paint so I used a paintbrush to spread the paint around better. Leave to dry.

Once this is all dry, use the two shades of blue Paint Dabbers to apply colour to the outside of the unit. Use a paintbrush to apply the Denim paint around the base and the front parts between the drawers. Leave to dry again. These paints dry fairly quickly but you can speed this up by using a heat tool to dry the paint.

While the paint is drying you can decorate up some scraps of mulberry paper. I used the Shell and Starfish stamps from the plate, an embossing ink pad and silver embossing powder.

Tear the mulberry paper into small pieces and apply to the top and sides of the unit once the paint is dry.

Use the embossing ink pad to stamp the Tag six times onto the paler blue card. Emboss each one with the Blueberry embossing powder, then cur them out. Mount onto the darker blue card and cut out again, leaving a narrow border.

Write the contents the drawer will hold onto each of the tags and then attach one to each drawer front using glue.

Finally emboss the Wish You Were Here words onto a piece of the paler blue card and emboss it with the Blueberry powder. Tear around the words, then mount onto the darker blue card and tear around the edge again. Attach it to the top of the unit as a reminder of where all those odds and ands should be!

Now all you have to do is find all those bits and put them in the drawers before you lose them again!

There’s another project using the free stamps – this time as a scrapbook page – Wish You Were Here.

avatar I think I found this chest of drawers in a supermarket sale ages ago, but I'm
sure there must be other similar ones around. Ikea might be worth a try.
