We noticed on the Forum that a Tag Art swap is being organised, so we thought we’d offer some ideas and a little background to Tag Art.
Basically it is either a bought shipping tag, a die cut tag or hand cut tag that has been decorated ion any manner of ways. We even have tag stamps that can be stamped and then cut out all ready for you to create your masterpiece.

Having got your basic tag shape all you need to do is decorate it!
It’s a good idea to give the tag a basic background colour and this can be done either by sponging colour on or by using the direct to paper technique of applying the colour from the ink pads. There are numerous ways of adding this layer to the tags and experimentation is the key!
Having allowed this layer to dry, it’s worth adding some texture next by way of the Double-sided Texture stamps. Artifacts have 6 such stamps – X001 – X006. Click here to view them.

Now the fun can really begin as you add more layers to your tag. Here are a few ideas to help along the way.
- Cut or tear strips of background paper or handmade paper and layer them onto your tag to create different sections, giving you a grid-like area to decorate.
- Cut small pieces of paper that echo the tag shape and use these to add more layers to the main tag.
- Create a mosaic effect with small pieces of paper or card attached to the tag.
Here is a selection of tags with brief information about each one. We hope they will inspire you to give Tag Art a go. One of the good things about it is that it is not a huge blank canvas, so it is not too daunting to the newcomer to this great art form.
Tag Art Gallery

This tag has been inked with Distress ink using a sponge. The stamping uses Artifacts stamps G032 Treasured Memories and D031 Penny’s Text. A post mark stamp has also been used. The photograph was scanned into a computer and printed out to use on this tag.

The background has again been sponged with Distress inks. Artifacts stamps used are G032 Treasured Memories. A postage stamp and a scanned photo have been added along with a scratched line stamp.

A sponged Distress ink background with random stamped images and the Eiffel Tower is made using the Krafty Lady Art Mould AM287.

This background was made using the direct to paper technique. The stamping uses Artifacts D015 Orchid Border and G032 Treasured Memories. The scanned photo is added and an embossing pen has been used around the edges of the photo. This has then been embossed with gold powder. Artifacts Penny’s Text – D031 – has been stamped over the photo.

Lovely orange and yellow inks have been applied as the background here. Artifacts F002 Swirl Plaque and G012 Wavy Lines decorate the background. A scanned photo has been added along with a heart made using the Small Puffy Heart Art Mould AM035. The word Family comes from the unmounted plate UM010 Words Plate 2.

Rich colours sponged on form the background here. The stamp used are all from Artifacts UM013 Dragonfly Dreams, part of your subscription gift!) The flourish is made from a Grungeboard pack with beads on wire added to the bottom of it.

Cream and brown inks have been applied direct to paper. The stamps used are Artifacts E032 Pocket Watch and E036 Left Luggage. A clear domed sticker highlights part of the tag with some fibres added at the top.
We hope this gives you an insight into just some of the tag art that you can create. There is so much more you can do and we will take a further look into the tag art world in a future issue of Guilded.
Have fun and you will never look at a tag in the same way again!
