Project by Mickie Sutcliffe

We thought it would be good to involve Guild Members in the Guild magazine, so we have set up 3 Design Teams each consisting of two Guild Members. The idea is that we will send each team a plate of Artifacts stamps to see what they can come up with. This is brilliant as we all want to get the most out of what we buy and this idea will show us just that. So our first team was sent the Beauty plate and Mickie Sutcliffe has made these gorgeous cards with it. We’ll have part two of Mickies projects in the next issue along with the project from her fellow team member – Beth Hammonds project. Well done and thank you to both Mickie and Beth.
Mickies Beauty Projects Monochrome Beauty We used: Step by Step:
- Score and fold linen card to make a slightly larger than A6 card.
- Stamp the Beauty image onto coated paper/card and leave to dry for a few minutes.
- Cut out leaving a 2mm border around the image.
- Run the black card through the Cuttlebug machine in the Harlequin Embossing Folder.
- Adhere the stamped panel to embossed black card, leaving a bottom border of 29mm and a right-hand border of 15mm.
- Assemble the paper flower and use a black brad for the centre. Attach to the black card with the brad.
- Attach the finished mat to the white linen card, leaving a narrow border all round.
Beauty Queen We used: Step by Step: - Cut the A4 linen effect card in half and fold into an A6 card.
- Stamp Beauty onto white card/paper using the VersaFine ink pad and leave to dry. Then using a ruler, tear it into to an oblong measuring 80mm wide by 110mm high.
- Stamp the Crown onto the metal sheet using black StazOn. Ink up just the word “Beauty” from the “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder” stamp, again, using black StazOn and stamp it onto the metal sheet.
- Cut out the crown using sharp scissors and lay onto harder surfaced mouse mat. Using the embossing stylus tool, define the outline of the crown and any detail. Then transfer it to the fabric topped mouse mat, but lay it upside down and using the embossing stylus tool, emboss both side of the lines previously defined.
- Cut out the word Beauty leaving a reasonable border all the way round. Using harder surfaced mat outline the word. Turn the metal over, transfer to softer mat and emboss the word where previously defined.
- Turn Beauty so the right side is facing and work a border on each edge, either with an embossing wheel, or making dots with a fine embossing tool.
- Using the chalks, randomly apply yellow, green and orange to the image on the white card, leaving the face and shoulders white. Using red and a fine tipped applicator, apply to Beauty’s lips. Define the edges with chalk. Carefully define the necklace with Glossy Accents and add a gem in the centre. Leave to dry.
- Using double-sided sticky tape, stick the chalked image to the yellow linen card front.
 - 9. Take a 10mm long piece of double-sided foam sticky tape and apply it to centre of crown. Take a slightly longer piece and apply overtop. Then take a piece to fit entire width of crown and apply over both previous pieces of tape. Adhere the crown to the card, making sure that the outside edges of the crown are flat to the card. Decorate crown with sticky backed gems.
- 10. Apply a strip of double-sided foam sticky tape to the back of the embossed metal Beauty and apply to lower right-hand corner of stamped image, to overlap the image and the card.
The Eye of the Beholder Here’s a final card for inspiration. The eye has been stamped and cut out and added to a gold circle. The Beauty quote is stamped onto vellum, torn out and applied to the card with brads. The background works in well with the colours used to create a ‘together’ look! More from Mickie next time!
