Order & Chaos Part 2 - 1

More from Felicity Goodwin!

This pretty card and tag follow on from Felicity’s projects in the last issue of Guilded, Issue 7. We have included the instructions again this month for the layered paper and the flowers, to save you having to flick back to the article in the last issue.

To Make The Layered Stamping Paper

You Will Need:

Glossy Photo Paper or Card, or Plain Card

Ink Pads - Dye or Pigment in 3 Colours

Step by Step:

Order & Chaos Part 2 - 2
  1. Cut a piece of card or paper to the required size and stamp your chosen design all over in the lightest colour of ink. Don¹t worry if any images don¹t stamp completely as it will not show in the finished piece.

    Order & Chaos Part 2 - 3
  2. Next stamp the medium colour of ink on with the same stamp, at random on top of the first images but a little further apart.

    Order & Chaos Part 2 - 4
  3. Finally, stamp on a few images with the darkest ink colour. You don¹t want too many, just enough to pull your piece of decorated paper together.

To Make The Metallic 3D Flowers

You Will Need:

  • Thin Card Scraps in a pale colour
  • 3.5cm Daisy Flower Punch
  • Metallic Embossing Powder
  • Embossing Ink Pad
  • Cuttlebug Embossing Folder (Textile or Script works well) and Cuttlebug or similar
  • Embossing Ball Tool and Foam Mat
  • Heat Tool

Step by Step:

Order & Chaos Part 2 - 5
  1. Punch out a flower and emboss in the Cuttlebug folder.

Order & Chaos Part 2 - 6

  1. Cover the side with the raised pattern in embossing ink and emboss with metallic powder. You will probably need to do this twice for a good covering.

    Order & Chaos Part 2 - 7
  2. Flip the flower over and place on the foam mat. Rub gently on each petal in a circular motion until the petal curls up.
  3. When all the petals are done, turn the flower over and pull each petal up slightly. You will now have a 3D metallic flower.

A Dancing Star

Order & Chaos Part 2 - 8

A slightly softer look for this card as it has a photo of my daughter at the age of 10 ready for a ballet exam.

We used:

  • Artifacts Stamps: Complex Creation Unmounted Plate UM012
  • Pink A5 Card Blank
  • Cream Card
  • White Card
  • Yellow Flower Embossed Paper or similar
  • Tim Holtz Plain Grungeboard Elements
  • Ranger Distress Ink Pads – Worn Lipstick Spiced Marmalade Mustard Seed Antique Linen
  • Black Dye Ink Pad
  • Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber – Peach
  • Acrylic Paint – Metallic Pink Metallic Orange
  • Lace
  • Butterfly Sticker
  • Jewel Brad
  • Black and White Photo or stamped image
  • Medium Daisy Punch
  • Cuttlebug Textile Folder and Machine
  • Embossing Ball Tool and Foam Mat
  • Deckle Edged Scissors
  • Sponge
  • Double-sided Tape
  • Adhesive

Step by Step:

  1. Cut a piece of cream card measuring 10 x 21cm. Using the smallest Complex Creation image and the yellow, orange and pink Distress inks, follow the instructions to make the layer stamped paper. When you have finished, sponge a little Antique Linen all over to soften the effect and then stamp on some extra circular images in the pink ink.
  2. Cut out a cream card panel larger all round than your chosen photo or stamped image and emboss with the Textile Folder. Sponge the card with a mix of orange and pink Distress inks and trim the side edges with the deckle scissors. I had a little spare flat card at the top and bottom so I stamped the tiny Order and Chaos saying on with the pink ink. Ink the edges with the pink ink.
  3. I chose a flourish Grungeboard shape and painted it first with the peach acrylic paint and then the metallic pink. I sponged the lace with pink ink.
  4. Make two flowers, following the instructions at the beginning of the projects, but use metallic pink and orange acrylic paint instead of the embossing powder technique. Fix the flowers together with the jewel brad.
  5. I cut my daughter out of the original photo and used the butterfly sticker cut in half to make wings. Fix this to the Cuttlebug embossed panel.
  6. Generate the quote on a computer and print out on white card in black ink. Cut the pieces out as shown and ink the edges with black dye ink.
  7. Assemble the card as shown using double-sided tape to stick all the relevant pieces.

Complex Creation Tag

Order & Chaos Part 2 - 9

We used:

  • Artifacts Stamps: Complex Creation Unmounted Plate UM012
  • Cream Card
  • Buff Luggage Tag
  • Ranger Distress Ink Pads – Aged Mahogany Spiced Marmalade Mustard Seed
  • VersaColor Topaz Ink Pad
  • Large Purple Fabric or Paper Flower
  • Large Purple Button
  • Large Daisy Punch
  • Embossing Ball Tool and Foam Mat
  • Double-sided Tape

Step By Step:

  1. Punch two flowers from cream card with the punch. Sponge on Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade inks. Stamp on one of the Complex images with Spiced Marmalade then Aged Mahogany ink. Don¹t overdo the darker colour.
  2. Turn the flowers over and emboss with the embossing ball tool. (Check last month’s project for further instructions on this.) Turn the flowers back over and emboss a line down the centre of each petal.
  3. Stick the flowers together as shown, staggering them slightly to give the combined petals a heart shaped look. Stick to the large purple flower. Glue the button in the centre.
  4. Stamp one of the Complex designs all over the luggage tag in Spiced Marmalade ink and then stamp on the Complex Creation saying, staggering as before.
  5. Glue the flower to the tag. Ink the string from the tag and re-knot at the top.
