Border design stamps are so useful. Not only can they be used to edge a card or scrapbook page, but they can also be used to frame a picture or photograph on a page. Here we have given a few ideas – one as a card edging, one to show how they can be used to add pattern to collage pieces and the third example shows their use as background stamps. So as you can see they are an extremely good addition to your collection of stamps!
Border Gift We used: - Your Plate of Border Stamps
- Trio of Parcels Stamp – Artifacts J007
- White Hammered Card
- Plain White Card
- Blue Mulberry Paper
- Majestic Blue VersaFine Ink Pad
- Embossing Ink Pad
- Adirondack Paint Dabbers – Cool Peri and Bottle
- Silver Embossing Powder
- Heat Tool
- Loose Silver Glitter
- Glue
- Silver Wire
- Small Round Silver Brad
- Paintbrush
- Double-sided Tape
Step by Step: - Start by making the base card which measures 21cm tall x 8cm when folded.
 - Use two of the border stamps and the blue ink pad to stamp the images diagonally across the front of the card. I did it by eye, but you could measure it all if you want to be more precise.
 - Next tear a piece of mulberry paper to about 13 x 5cm. Ink up one of the two narrower border stamps, using embossing ink and stamp it across the paper. I used a zig-zag pattern. Quickly follow this with the second narrow border design, then emboss them with silver embossing powder.
- Starting with the Cool Peri Paint Dabber, add some colour to the embossed mulberry paper. Add a little of the Bottle colour too and allow to dry.
- Apply some glue here and there and sprinkle with silver glitter.
- Stamp and silver emboss one of the parcels from the Trio of Parcels stamp onto some plain white card, then trim around it to make a rectangle.
- Using a paintbrush, pick up a little of the ink from the blue pad and add some colour to the parcel.
 - Cut a length of wire and gently bend it into a bow shape, then swirl the ends to mirror the bow on the parcel.
- Make a small hole on the embossed parcel, where the bow meets the top of the package and attach the wire bow to it using a brad.
- Use double-sided tape to attach the mulberry paper to the main card, then to attach the parcel to the top of the mulberry paper.
Flowers and Borders We used: - The Borders Plate of Stamps
- Flower from Yesterday a Butterfly Unmounted Artifacts Plate – UM008
- White Hammered Card
- Scraps of Dark Blue and Burgundy Card
- Scrap of Text Printed Paper
- Small Piece of Heatproof Acetate
- Small Piece of Burgundy Mulberry Paper
- VersaFine Ink Pads – Majestic Blue and Crimson Red
- Brilliance Galaxy Gold Ink Pad
- Embossing Ink Pad
- Krafty Lady Art Mould – Daisy AM157
- Mauve Friendly Plastic
- Heat Tool
- Gold Embossing Powder
- Gold Wire
- 3 Small Gold Brads
- Foam Pads
- Double-sided Tape
Step by Step: - Cut the main card and fold to measure 15 x 10.5cm.
 - Tear various pieces of the coloured card and text paper. Use the Zig-zag border and the gold ink pad to stamp the design several times onto the two pieces of torn blue card.
 - Ink up the Symbols border using the embossing ink pad and stamp it onto the heatproof acetate. Sprinkle with gold embossing powder, tap off the excess and heat with a heat tool. It is important to use a heatproof acetate otherwise it will wrinkle when you apply the heat tool.
- Attach the embossed acetate to the burgundy mulberry paper using three gold brads. You don’t need one in the top left hand corner as this will be covered with the text paper.
 - Now for the daisy. Cut a piece of Friendly Plastic to fit the daisy Art Mould and place it on the mould, colour side down. Use your heat tool to soften the Friendly Plastic. When it sags into the mould dip your fingers into water, then press the plastic into the mould Make sue you wet your fingers first as the plastic is hot and could burn your fingers. Drop the entire mould into a bowl of cold water for a few minutes, then pop the shape out of the mould. You can trim off any excess bits at this stage with a pair of scissors.
- Take three pieces of gold wire and twist them, one at a time around a cocktail stick or similar. Take off the stick and gently pull a little to ‘relax’ the spiral.
- Attach a sticky foam pad to the back of the daisy and stick the three pieces of wire to this.
- Arrange the various bits of card and paper on the card front, adding the text paper to the centre.
- Stamp the flower image around in the gaps using the blue and the red ink pads.
- Finally, attach the daisy to the centre of the card.
Best Wishes We used: - Borders Plate of Stamps
- Best Wishes Mini Word – Artifacts A005
- White Hammered Card
- Small Piece of Dark Glue Card
- Embossing Ink Pad
- Stamp ‘n’ Bond Powder
- Coloured Foil of your choice
- Silver Embossing Powder
- Heat Tool
- Matching Ribbon
Step by Step: - Cut the main card to measure 10.5cm square when folded.
- Silver emboss the Swirly border down the right hand edge of the card.
- Cut a piece of blue card to fit the front of the main card, having it straight on the right hand side and at a slight angle on the left. Ours is about 3cm at the bottom and 4cm at the top.
 - Use the dash border and the embossing ink pad to stamp the image on this blue card. Sprinkle on the Stamp ‘n’ Bond and tap off the excess, then heat with a heat tool. This makes the powder tacky. Apply the foil over this to give a fairly subtle pattern and colour.
- Silver emboss the Best Wishes in the lower left corner of the card.
 - Cut six pieces of your ribbon, in differing lengths. Apply a strip of double-sided tape to the back of the blue card, so the ribbon will stick out from the left hand edge when it is turned over! Attach the pieces of ribbon to this, then apply another piece of double-sided tape over the top. Stick this in place in the main card, next to the embossed border and your last card is complete!
